Buying Raw Halal Meat in Malta
Malta’s halal restaurants are easy to find — but if you are cooking at home, renting a place with a kitchen, or buying for a family gathering, you need a butcher, not a restaurant. That is what this page is for: the shops that sell raw halal meat, from dedicated halal butchers to general butchers that also carry a halal range.
One honest note runs through the whole page. No source found for any Malta shop names a halal certifier, so this guide never claims a certification it cannot prove. Where a shop’s own words say its meat is halal, we say so. Where the claim comes only from a directory listing, we say that too. And where a fact — a phone number, an address, opening hours — could not be verified in at least two independent sources, we leave it out and tell you to check before you go.
Quick Answer
Where to Buy Raw Halal Meat in Malta
You can buy raw halal meat in Malta from dedicated halal butchers in Pietà, Birkirkara, Paola and San Ġwann, with further options in Sliema, Marsaskala, Luqa and Burmarrad. The strongest all-round choice is Akdeniz International Mini Market & Butcher, with branches in San Ġwann and Sliema, a halal-labelled meat menu and delivery through Wolt. For a pure halal butcher near the capital, try Halal Fresh Meat in Pietà for goat, lamb and beef. Always ask which certifier stands behind the meat — no Malta shop’s published sources name one.
The Butchers
10 Verified Halal Butchers & Meat Shops
Listed strongest first. “Dedicated halal butcher” means the shop presents itself as halal throughout; “halal range” means a general butcher that also provides halal meats — the scope is stated honestly on each card.

Akdeniz International Mini Market & Butcher
The strongest listing in this guide: a mini market with its own dedicated butcher section, in two branches — San Ġwann and Sliema. Its own Wolt copy promises “halal meat and chicken from our dedicated butcher section”, and its menu categories are literally labelled halal: beef, chicken, lamb, signature Turkish products and frozen products. The menu is fully priced, covering ground beef, chicken breast and whole chicken, lamb cuts, Turkish-style meatballs, Adana kebap, kasap sucuk, kokorec and pastirma, alongside Turkish grocery lines. Both branches rate strongly on Wolt — San Ġwann 9.0 out of 10 and Sliema 9.2 out of 10.

Halal Fresh Meat
A pure halal butcher in Pietà, just outside Valletta, whose very name states its trade: goat, lamb and beef. Its place listing is marked Active, and it is the nearest dedicated halal butcher to the capital — the natural first stop if you are staying near Valletta and cooking for yourself.

Halal Acquaduct Butcher
A halal butcher in Birkirkara, by the Wignacourt Aqueduct in the Fleur-de-Lys area, at 1 Triq F. Zahra. Its own Arabic place description says it plainly — a halal butcher shop selling halal meats — and it carries a 4.9 rating from its reviewers. The sources found do not itemise which meats or cuts it stocks, so this is a shop to visit or call with a shopping list in hand.

Soyah Halal Butcher & Grocery
A halal butcher combined with a grocery store in Paola — useful because Paola is also home to Malta’s mosque, Mariam Al-Batool. Its place listing is marked Active. No source found itemises which meats it stocks, so treat the range as butcher plus grocery until you ask.

Spice Bazaar (Halal Butcher)
A neighbourhood grocery and butcher shop in San Ġwann, listed as a halal butcher and rated 8.6 out of 10 on Wolt, where its own copy describes it as a place “where freshness meets flavour”. Its halal identity rests on the halal-butcher element of its place name — the Wolt copy retrieved does not itself use the word halal, and no certifier is named.

Teer Butcher
A butcher in Marsaskala, in the south-east, whose own Facebook description promises “fresh halal meat at very competitive prices”. It is the only halal butcher on this page serving the Marsaskala area — but every fact about it currently rests on a single source, so it is listed here as a lead to confirm rather than a fully verified listing.

Meats and Eats
A gourmet butcher in Sliema at 75 Triq Sir Adrian Dingli — and a card to read carefully. Its own description, carried on both its place listing and Wolt, says it also provides a range of organic, free-range and halal meats, and it rates 9.6 out of 10 on Wolt. But it is a general butcher: it sells pork and wine, and no individual product on its Wolt page is labelled halal. So this is a “selected halal meats” listing, not a halal butcher — the halal lines are real, but which ones they are is not stated anywhere we found.

Wentworth Butcher
A family-run butcher in San Ġwann since 1996, at 55 Triq Is-Santwarju, selling fresh local meat, premium beef, lamb, pork, poultry, Wagyu and homemade products. Its halal claim must be stated at exactly its level: the word “halal” appears only in Yellow Malta directory copy about the shop; it does not appear in the shop’s own website text retrieved for this guide. Treat it as a general butcher with a directory-claimed halal range, not a halal butcher, and confirm the scope directly before buying.

Imperial Butchery
A butcher in Luqa, in business since 1996 according to directory copy, known for Kobe and Wagyu beef, grass-fed cuts and Australian beef imports. Its halal claim rests only on Yellow Malta directory copy, which describes “halal certified cuts” and BBQ and beach delivery across Malta, with ordering by WhatsApp for collection or delivery. No own-source halal claim and no certifier was found, and no street address was found at all — so this is the weakest listing on the page, included so Luqa has a lead, but one to verify before you rely on it.

Ta’ Gauci Poultry
A poultry specialist at Burmarrad — and the strongest halal wording of any shop in this guide. Its own website states that all of its products are certified halal, though it does not name the certifier. The range is poultry only: whole chicken, breast, legs, drumsticks and wings, marinated wings, nuggets and cordon bleu, corn-fed, free-range and organic lines, plus turkey in whole, breast, drumstick and leg cuts. One caveat: the business reads as a producer and trade supplier, and no source found establishes a public retail counter — so confirm you can actually buy from it in person before travelling.
Good to Know
Malta’s Public Abattoir Offers Halal Slaughter
For context on where halal meat in Malta can come from: Malta’s Public Abattoir officially offers a halal slaughter service, carried out by a trained Muslim butcher in line with European and national hygiene and animal welfare regulations. That means a local halal-slaughter route exists on the island.
But be precise: the abattoir’s service does not by itself certify any individual shop here — a butcher’s halal status still comes down to its own sourcing and certification, which is why every card carries a “what to ask” line.
Quick Answers
Halal Meat in Malta — FAQs
Where can I buy halal meat in Malta?
From the butchers on this page: dedicated halal butchers in Pietà, Birkirkara, Paola and San Ġwann, plus Akdeniz’s two branches in San Ġwann and Sliema, a butcher in Marsaskala, general butchers with halal ranges in Sliema and San Ġwann, a Luqa butcher and a poultry specialist in Burmarrad. Akdeniz and Meats and Eats deliver through Wolt, and Wentworth Butcher offers ordering and delivery through its own website.
Is the meat certified?
That depends on the shop, and you should ask. Several shops describe their meat as halal in their own words — Ta’ Gauci Poultry even states that all of its products are certified halal — but no source found for any Malta shop names the certifying body. Until a shop names its certifier, treat “halal” as the shop’s own claim.
Do butchers deliver?
Some do. Akdeniz and Meats and Eats deliver through Wolt, Wentworth Butcher delivers through its own website’s online ordering, and Imperial Butchery’s directory listings mention WhatsApp ordering for collection or delivery — though that last one is directory copy only and should be confirmed. For the other shops, no delivery service was found, so plan to visit in person and call ahead.
Best halal butcher near Valletta?
Halal Fresh Meat in Pietà is the nearest dedicated halal butcher to Valletta on this page, selling goat, lamb and beef — call +356 9964 8191 before you go. If you would rather order in, Akdeniz’s Sliema branch delivers through Wolt, with halal beef, chicken and lamb on a priced menu.
Halal meat vs halal restaurants — what’s the difference?
Halal meat is raw meat you buy to cook yourself, from a butcher or meat counter — that is what this page lists. Halal restaurants are places that cook and serve halal meals ready to eat; you will find those in our restaurants directory. Some shops blur the line — Akdeniz, for example, also sells prepared Turkish items — but as a rule, butchers sell raw and restaurants sell cooked.
Is there a halal butcher in Gozo?
No — none was found. The general butcher checked on Gozo had no halal evidence. If you are staying on Gozo, plan around seafood and vegetarian dishes, or buy halal meat on the main island before taking the ferry over.
